A hand splint can be used to support and protect the hand and wrist in individuals with brachial plexus injuries. The brachial plexus is a network of nerves that originates in the spinal cord and controls movement and sensation in the arm, forearm, and hand.

A hand splint can help in several ways:

1. *Prevents contractures*: By maintaining proper alignment and positioning of the hand and wrist, a splint can help prevent contractures (permanent shortening of muscles or tendons).
2. *Reduces pain*: Immobilizing the hand and wrist can help reduce pain and discomfort associated with brachial plexus injuries.
3. *Supports weak or paralyzed muscles*: A splint can provide support and stability, enabling individuals to perform daily activities with more ease.
4. *Improves function*: By maintaining proper hand and wrist positioning, a splint can help improve hand function and dexterity.
5. *Enhances safety*: A splint can protect the hand from injury or further damage.

A hand splint for brachial plexus injuries is typically custom-made by an occupational therapist or orthotist to meet the individual's specific needs.
